Richard’s Run for Giant Salamanders

🏃‍♂️50km run for the Salamander – Support the Mission!

On June 15th, I’ll be running a 50km (33 mile) ultra-marathon across the rugged terrain of the Oki Islands, Shimane Prefecture — a landscape shaped by ancient volcanic forces, full of brutal ups and downs. The course has a time limit of 8 hours. Whatever it takes, my mission is to drag myself over the finishing line within this limit

Why? Because the Japanese Giant Salamander needs our help.

This run is more than a physical challenge. It’s my way of showing just how serious I am about protecting this iconic and endangered species. Through Sustainable Daisen, we work to conserve the salamander and its fragile river habitat — but we can’t do it alone.

The longest I’ve ever run until now is 12km — so this is going to hurt. But a little pain is worth it if it helps raise awareness and support for one of Japan’s most incredible animals.
